Launched in 1985, C20 Society's famous phoneboxes campaign has led to the listing of more than 3,000 kiosks across the UK and helped saved countless more. The campaign began by fighting for the classic red K2 and K6 models by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, was revived for the rare 1960s K8 model designed by Bruce Martin, and now continues with the latter-day 1980s KX100 kiosk.
The K8 was designed in 1965-66 by architect Bruce Martin, who was commissioned by the General Post Office to create a modern and minimalist model, which was easier to clean and maintain than its predecessors. The last generation of the iconic red public telephone box, 11,000 K8s were installed across the UK between 1968-83, with fewer than 50 now remaining in their original position.
This graphic tea towel design celebrates the K8 and exclusively available at the C20 Shop, with all proceeds supporting our ongoing campaign.
